I learned about Prewitt Custom Homes (at the time) after buying a lot in Chapel Ridge. The real estate group within Chapel Ridge spoke highly of Jim, and I drove by several of his builds within this community and in Chatham Park. I stopped at one of the homes that Jim had just completed and spoke to the owner, who convinced me that Jim was not just a good builder, but also fair and honest. I already had a set of plans and the lot, so I just needed Jim to build the house.
When we had our first build meeting, I was made aware of the expected transition over to Prewitt-Douglas. I found everyone on staff to be incredibly responsive, especially Emma and Jared. To be honest, there were several missteps in my build that I believe were a product of the initial transition, but the missteps were all acknowledged and corrected without anyone on the Prewitt team trying to pass the buck or make excuses. No two homes are the same; no two lots are the same; and the originally drawn architectural plans are bound to change as the build proceeds. What set the Prewitt-Douglas team apart for me was the way they handled the issues that came up. Whether it was a mistake in the plans that I provided, a barbecue station that needed to be reconfigured, cabinets that didn’t fit in the space, or an on-the-fly decision about how best to finish the rear elevation under my patio, the team assembled everyone involved (including me) to come up with the best solution. That best solution never included an additional charge. So many other homeowners have told me their stories of being charged for every single request or change, no matter how minuscule.
As a custom home buyer, we must put a tremendous amount of faith in the builder we choose – faith that all of the many aspects that are not specifically spelled out in the contract are done to our satisfaction. Our Realtor told us about Jim Prewitt and suggested we look into working with him to build our home in Chapel Ridge. Since completion of our home, we have kept in close contact with Jim. He has been readily available to assist with any problems that arise and we trust that he’s giving us the best advice and service possible. On several occasions we have needed to have his subcontractors come back out to make repairs or further additions, and we have been pleased with the professionalism, service and results.
On a personal note, Jim was fantastic with our family, especially our son (who was 3 years old at the time). He spent time with him and let him enjoy the equipment (which was our son’s favorite part!). Jeff and I have said many times that we don’t know many people who would take on the process of building a home a second time with the same builder; however we would without hesitation (that is, if we didn’t love our home as much as we do!).
